Each year, the Animal Rescue Site holds a $300,000 Shelter Challenge. This year, the Prattville/Autauga Humane Society is working with the City of Prattville and Mayor Gillespie's No Excuses, Just Results Team to secure some of this grant money for our shelter.
The grand prize is a $5,000 grant. There is a $3,000 grant for the top Project for Paws proposal, which is being submitted by PAHS staff members, and four $1,000 grants for runners up. There are 53 regional (State, Canadian, or International) grant prizes of $1,000 also up for grabs. The contest began on June 9th and runs until September 16th.
PAHS Board President Sheree Ward said, "We began voting on June 11th and were ranked 955th. We are now ranked 1st in the State of Alabama and 9th overall. We would really like to ride the recent wave of community enthusiasm and garner support for this grant contest. Everyone knows we can always use additional funding at the shelter."
We're asking our residents to join in the challenge. Each person can vote once per day from each browser or device. Simply go to www.tinyurl.com/VotePAHS2012 and cast your vote. Fill in the State and City blanks to pull up Prattville/Autauga Humane Society and click "vote." You will be prompted to type in a captcha (security feature) and click vote.
"We are actively and continually looking for these type of grant contests, which do not require monetary matching of funds and have very few stipulations on how the money is used," stated Mayor Bill Gillespie, Jr. "It's important to our community that we help not only the City, but also our community initiatives as much as we can. I hope you'll join me in voting for such a worthy cause as we improve Prattville one project at a time."
