While the Prattville Police Department Traffic Division can and do patrol for erratic driving, bicyclists and pedestrians can take extra steps to further ensure their own safety.

Pedestrian Safety Tips:

• Wear light-colored, reflective clothing so you can be seen.
• Walk against traffic.
• Make eye contact with motorists before crossing the street.
• Be aware of your surroundings.

Bicycle Safety Tips:

• Wear light-colored, reflective clothing so you can be seen.
• Consider wearing an approved helmet and other protective gear.
• Children under 12 years of age must wear an approved safety helmet.
• Ride on the right side of the road.
• Signal your intentions in advance.
• Consider attending training to obtain the skills necessary to ride safely on the road.

As we work in the future to incorporate more sidewalks and possibly bike lanes, it will be easier to "share the road", but in the meantime, please be courteous to each other and take as many precautions as possible to stay safe.

Drivers, remember that texting while driving is against the law in Prattville. Please give the road and all its occupants your full attention.
