| PRATTVILLE CITY COUNCIL The Prattville City Council met in regular session on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Roll was called and all were recorded as being present. After the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag, Councilman Renegar gave the invocation. THE CHARACTER TRAIT OF THE MONTH IS DEFERENCE: Limiting my freedom so I do not offend the tastes of those around me. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: January 15, 2008 City Council minutes. Councilman Renegar made the motion to approve the minutes and Councilman Fank seconded the motion. The minutes were approved (7-0). COMMENTS FROM PERSONS PRESENT: David Melling, 137 N. Washington Street, Prattville, Al 36067, appeared before the Council to express his appreciation for the police presence in his neighborhood. He thanked the Mayor and Council for their willingness to spend the additional funds to employ professional, friendly and helpful police officers. Mr. Melling further requested that a “One Way” sign be placed at the west entrance of the Home Depot store. He stated that the sign would help citizens with navigation. Mr. Jim Blink, 103 White Tail Court, Prattville, AL 36067, came before the Council to express his gratitude to members of the Prattville Police and Fire departments who responded to the vehicle accident in which his sixteen year old daughter and her boyfriend were involved. He praised the first responders for their professionalism and for the care they provided from the time they arrived on the scene of the accident until the debris was cleared. MAYORS REPORT: Mayor Byard thanked Mr. Melling and Mr. Blink for attending the meeting and for publicly expressing their appreciation to our police and fire personnel. Mayor Byard encouraged everyone to attend the 9th Annual Black History Month Program on February 15, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at Doster Community Center. Circuit Court Judge Charles Price will be the guest speaker. The Mayor thanked employees from the following city departments for their special efforts and hard work on the new addition of Oak Hill Cemetery: Engineering, Horticulture/Planning, Leisure Services, and Streets. Mayor Byard further added that inquiries regarding the purchase of burial plots in the new section are referred to Alisa Morgan in the Planning Department. COUNCIL REPORTS: Councilman Renegar recognized Tyler and Brandon Randall from Boy Scout Troop #600. They are working toward a Communication Badge. Councilman Renegar also recognized Scout Master Kelly Black who was in attendance at the evening’s meeting. At this time Council President Argo stated that it was the desire of the City Council to pull item number 3 from the agenda. Resolution number 3 is to approve the use of Stanley Jensen Stadium as the venue for Bama Bash IV. Councilman Renegar made the motion to pull the agenda item and Councilman Macready seconded the motion. All were in favor of pulling the item from the agenda (7-0). AGENDA 1. RESOLUTION: TO VACATE RIGHT-OF-WAY OF PROPERTY PREVIOUSLY PLATTED & DEDICATED FOR HIGH POINT CENTER. (RESOLUTION BOOK 2008, PAGE 007). A public hearing was held at 6:00 p.m. this evening. Councilman Miller made a motion to adopt the Resolution and Councilman Gillespie seconded the motion. There being no discussion, the Resolution was adopted with the following vote:
2. ORDINANCE: TO SURPLUS MISCELLANEOUS EQUIPMENT FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. (ORDINANCE BOOK 2008, PAGE 005). Councilman Macready made the motion to adopt the Ordinance and Councilman Gillespie seconded the motion. Because Ordinances are generally held for two weeks it is necessary for the rules to be suspended if immediate action is to be taken. Councilman Gillespie made the motion to suspend the rules and Councilman Miller seconded the motion. The rules were suspended (7-0). There being no discussion, the Ordinance was adopted with the following vote:
CLOSING COMMENTS: None. ADJOURN: Councilman Miller made the motion to adjourn and Councilman Macready seconded the motion. The meeting closed at 7:25 p.m.
