tommiller-sm2Tom Miller was elected to the Prattville City Council in 2000, 2004 and 2008. He has resided in Prattville since 1993 with his wife, Linda (RN), and two daughters, Sarah and Rebekah, who went through the Autauga County public school system.

Miller grew up in Dothan where he attended public schools and the local community college. He received BS (Chemistry) and medical degrees and completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of South Alabama in Mobile. He also received a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Throughout his schoolwork, Miller received many academic honors, and he is active in a number of professional organizations at the state and national levels.

After time in private practice (Opelika-Auburn) and on faculty at USA, he joined the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) in 1990 and is Assistant State Health Officer. Miller has been actively involved in a number of community activities throughout the years and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Prattville YMCA, the Autauga County United Way (Chairman for 2004 Campaign), and the Board of the River Region United Way. As a member of the Autauga County Leadership Class of 1998, he spearheaded the class project to bring Welcome Signs to the city's six gateways. He was a member of the Leadership Alabama Class of 2007. The Millers attend Prattville First United Methodist Church and have four schnauzers.

For the 2004-2008 and 2008-2012 terms, Miller was elected by his fellow councilmen to serve as President Pro Tempore. In November 2010, upon the resignation of Councilman Argo from the Presidency, Miller assumed the role of Council President. On May 17, 2011, he resigned the Presidency due to greatly expanded job duties at ADPH. He currently serves on three Council committees:

  1. Fire/Administration (Chair)
  2. Sanitation/Wastewater, and
  3. Public Safety/Public Relations.

He is particularly interested in economic development, city beautification and adequate and efficient city services and infrastructure. Other goals include curbside recycling; a new youth sports complex, swimming pool, and library; and support of the highest quality public school system.
