Abandoned Vehicles PDF Print E-mail

Abandoned motor vehicles exist in two forms:

  1. Abandoned/non-operating vehicles on private property.
  2. Abandoned/non-operating vehicles on a roadway.

An abandoned/non-operating vehicle is one that does not have a current tag, has been wrecked, junked, no longer operates, or if it cannot be immediately driven legally upon the roadways of the State of Alabama.

The Planning Department deals with non-operating vehicles on private property by issuing the owner a ten day notice to remove the vehicle or to make the vehicle operable. If the vehicle is not made operable or removed within the ten days, an arrest warrant is issued so that the individual will appear in court.

Abandoned vehicles on the roadway will have a notice posted on the by the Planning or Police Department notifying the owner of vehicle that they must remove the vehicle from the street within seventy-two (72) hours or it will be removed by the city at the owner's expense.

Inquire about or report a violation.
