| The City of Prattville cut the ribbon and opened the Creekwalk Garden on April 29, 2010 in time for CityFest.
The garden/park was an effort achieved through a partnership with the Prattville Downtown Unlimited merchants and the City of Prattville. The Horticulture Division turned the lot, left empty after the Cobb Building fire several years ago, into a wonderful green space for all to enjoy in the heart of downtown. The City of Prattville spent $4,258 of City funds on the park. The Down to Earth garden club and the Master Gardeners made cash donations to the project. Mickey Thompson of "Uncle Mick's" restaurant donated the cast iron columns. Steven and Carol Brooks donated the lion's head fountain shown on the wall in the photos (check photo gallery below). The merchants of Prattville Downtown Unlimited donated the fountain and the bench. Donations from these groups totalled $7,410. The wrought iron gates and the baskets atop the cast iron columns were fabricated by City employees Robert Browder and Mike Taylor. City Horticulturist Ken Johnson loaned some decorative items to the project, from his personal stock, such as the tricycles and some smaller items.
The Horticulture Division designed the garden/park, planted the trees, plants and flowers, laid the grass, installed the irrigation and night lighting. Eddie Davis, of the City Engineering Department, engineered the electrical wiring for the green space to accommodate the lighting and irrigation.
The City of Prattville and all parties involved sincerely hope that everyone will enjoy this beautiful addition to our downtown!
