Christmas Holiday Sanitation Schedule
City offices will be closed on Christmas Day and the day after, December 25-26. Sanitation will not collect Residential Yard Trash or Household Garbage on Christmas Day.
Household Garbage routes will be collected as normally scheduled on Monday, December 22nd through Wednesday, December 24th.
Residential Yard Trash will be collected as normally scheduled on Monday, December 22nd and Tuesday, December 23rd. On Wednesday, December 24th, Sanitation will collect all Wednesday and Thursday Residential Yard Trash routes (and Wednesday Household Garbage routes as noted above).
On Friday, December 26th, Sanitation will collect all Thursday and Friday Household Garbage routes. They will also finish any uncollected Thursday Residential Yard Trash routes and collect all Friday Residential Yard Trash routes. Sanitation is requesting that residents flatten all boxes and place them in garbage bags for ease of handling and collection.
We will have two (2) additional drop-off locations for Household Garbage, Residential Yard Trash and recyclables on Saturday, December 27th. The first location is the previous Peoples Bank & Trust at the corner of Main Street and Glynwood Drive. The second location is in the D & J Auto Parts parking lot at 175 Highway 82. Trucks will be in place from 8 a.m. until Noon on Saturday, December 27th. We are providing this additional service on the Saturday after the holiday in order to decrease the amount of trash and garbage that will need to be collected the following week. Your use of this additional service will determine its future availability. Anything dropped at these two locations must be bagged for ease of handling.
If you have any questions or issues regarding Sanitation service, please direct those to Public Works Director Randy Lucas at 334-595-0481.
The Sanitation Division observes the following major holidays:
*Presidents' Day can be used during the Christmas holidays depending on how it falls in the week. The City Council will address the holiday schedule at the end of each fiscal year for the upcoming year.
If a major holiday falls on a Saturday, the Sanitation Division will observe it on the preceding Friday. If the major holiday falls on a Sunday, it will be observed on the following Monday. Routes not collected due to holidays will be picked up the next business day along with the routes for that day. All routes will be collected the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Check the home page (Upcoming Events) for information regarding scheduling changes pursuant to a holiday.
