| The Horticulture Division has planted Evergreen Hollies, Ligustrum Curly-leaf, and Mrs. G. G. Gerbing, white-blooming azaleas, around the western side of Oak Hill Cemetery (Northington Street). Horticulturist Ken Johnson chose this particular plant to create a pretty, but tasteful perimeter for the newest extension of the cemetery.
These Azaleas are spring blooming and the foliage is evergreen. These Azaleas have an upright growth habit and are the best choice for a high light area. The Mrs. G.G. Gerbing azalea has a pure white single flower that can reach 3" in diameter and it blooms profusely during the spring. The Curly-leaf Ligustrum is a dwarf member of the Ligustrum family. This plant is wonderful for an entrance and many other styles of gardens, or a specific landscape area. There are many different varieties of the Ligustrum and this plant family is known for its drought and heat tolerance. Evergreen Hollies range in size from a 6-inch-tall spreading dwarf to a 70-foot-tall towering giant. Leaves may be small and spineless or large and armed. Berries can be red, orange, yellow, or black. Hollies are one of the few genera that can be grown in all 50 states.
