Read any good books lately?!
The Prattville Page Turners Book Club was formed in August 2005 by the Cultural Arts Department of the City of Prattville. The president of the club also serves on the Prattville Arts Council. Mrs. Nancy Goff, the current president, is a published author and diligently passes out flyers about the club at her local book signings. Under Mrs. Goff's leadership, attendance has grown to about twelve people. The city provided space for the meetings in the Cultural Arts Building until recently. Meeting time is the third Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Special Grind Coffee House in the Pratt Mill Shopping Center off Highway 14.
Everyone reads the same book each month and shares their views on the writing style, if they enjoyed it, and would they recommend it to others. The book for August is The Silver Spoon by K.T. Archer from Montgomery. Mrs. Archer plans to attend the August meeting for the discussion. The September book is Nine Lives by Dan Baum. It is a mystery about magic, death, and life in New Orleans. October's read is One-Arm Boy in a Two-Arm World, written by the book club's president, Nancy Bone Goff. It is the true story of Nancy's family, living as sharecroppers during and after the time of The Great Depression. She is from Billingsley, Alabama, therefore all the characters in the book are locals.
Each person gets to make recommendations for the books to be read. New members to the book club are always welcome. For more information, you may contact Nancy at 365-9840 or email her at email@example.com.
