| Prattville Police Make Arrests for Thefts | | | |
| The Prattville Police Department received a complaint from Target that unknown females were fraudulently returning electronic items. These females would buy the electronic item, remove the item and replace the item with something that would match its weight (such as flour, brown sugar, baby formula, etc.). The item’s package would be resealed, even going so far as re-laminating the package, and then returned to the store for a cash refund. The item would then be listed on an internet site for sale. The suspect returned re-packaged items to stores in the Prattville, Montgomery, Birmingham, Auburn/Opelika and north Georgia areas. Other department stores have experienced the same type thefts. The Prattville Police Department conducted an undercover operation through Craigslist.com and made contact with the suspect to make a buy of a stolen item. Kristy D. Morris, 36 years of age, of 307 Shawnee Drive in Wetumpka, Alabama was arrested on Thursday, November 18th in Prattville for receiving stolen property. A search of the suspect’s vehicle resulted in the recovery of 1 iPad and 11 Nintendo DS games. A female juvenile was detained but has not been charged at this time. In cooperation with the Wetumpka Police Department, a search warrant was executed at her residence. Recovered property from the search warrant included 9 iPhones, 5 iPods, 8 Nintendo DS games, 1 Laptop Mouse, 2 Portable HD TVs, 1 Xbox 360 and 4 Xbox games. The investigation is continuing and more charges and arrests are expected. |
