The mission of the Public Education Branch is to educate the citizens of the City of Prattville and Autauga County on Fire and Life Safety issues that they face daily. To achieve this goal the department has implemented several programs to educate all ages. Start safe is a program designed to teach preschoolers how to identify hot objects and the risks associated with them. Risk Watch is a childhood injury prevention program designed for school aged children. Remember When is a program designed to educate our growing senior population on both fire and fall prevention. The Public Education Branch also conducts classes on fire extinguishers, the importance of smoke alarms, E.D.I.T.H. Exit Drills In The Home, severe weather training, and numerous other safety issues.

  • Start Safe

Start Safe: Fire is a free educational program designed to teach children ages 3 to 6 and their families about fire safety, and provides educators the tools they need to deliver important fire safety information. Through the program, children will learn to identify things that are hot and to stay away, to call a grownup for help when they see something unsafe, and to help their families practice family fire drills.

  • Risk Watch

Risk Watch is a school-based curriculum that links teachers with community safety experts and parents. Risk Watch gives children and their families the skills and knowledge they need to create safer homes and communities. This program is designed for children 14 and under.

  • E.D.I.T.H. (Exit Drills In The Home)

Exit Drills In The Home can help people to prepare for an emergency. Most home fires begin between the hours of midnight and 6:00 a.m. This is a time when most people are least prepared. Our Life Safety Trailer can help you and your family become more familiar with how to escape your home during an emergency situation.

  • The Yellow Dot Program

The "Yellow Dot" program is the first program of its kind in the state of Alabama. It is designed to assist Alabama citizens and first responders in the event of an automobile crash or other medical emergency involving the participant's vehicle. The program can help save lives during the critical "golden hour" by improving communication at a time when accident victims may be unable to communicate for themselves.

The "Yellow Dot" program is a free service provided to individuals of all ages, with an emphasis on senior citizens. The program is being funded by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs/ Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Division (ADECA/LETS) and is being administered by the Northeast Alabama Traffic Safety Office. The "Yellow Dot" program is a cooperative effort of local Law Enforcement, Fire & Rescue, Emergency Medical Services, Senior Groups and concerned citizens.

  • Explorers

The Prattville Fire Department Explorer Program is designed for young adults from 15 to 21 years of age who are interested in learning about a career in the Fire Service. The program is a joint venture with Learning for Life. In addition to learning about the Fire Service, the Explorer program's main goal is to provide the young adult with a sense of responsibility to their neighborhood through on-going community-related activities. PFD's Explorer Program falls under the Boy Scouts of America in Montgomery. For more information on how to get involved in this program, please contact Sgt. Josh Bingham at 361-3660 or email josh.bingham@prattvilleal.gov.
