Senior Adult Programs

The Parks & Recreation Department provides a wide range of activities which appeal to all ages. For information concerning programs, fees charged and registration, check the calendar, navigate these pages or call 361-3640. You may also download the Registration Form.

Pre-registration is required. Unless otherwise noted, registration will be taken Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Department of Leisure Services Office, or you may call the office and request a registration form to be mailed. The City of Prattville Parks & Recreation Department provides equal opportunities for participation in programs without regard to race, sex or national origin.

COMPUTER CLASSES

Dominoes, Mexican Dominoes, Rook, Pinochle and Canasta are some of the games we play. Join the fun! Refreshments available. FREE!

SENIOR ADULT BEGINNERS LINE DANCE CLASS

when: beginning in November, Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.

fee: $5

SENIOR ADULT MASTERS GAMES 55 & UP

Regular dominoes, rook, checkers, shuffleboard, horseshoes, bowling, golf and much more. (Rules available at the Gillespie Senior Center). Show off your skills, win medals and bragging rights. Win and move to the state games level in Oxford (not required if you win.) Many participants from last year played at the state level and won gold, silver and bronze medals. SENIOR ADULT MEALS

Lunch is offered Monday - Friday for seniors age 60 and up. Please call in advance to sign up for lunch.
The cost of the meal is $1.50 donation. Call 361-3697 for more information.

  • February 20 - Alabama Museum of Natural History
    Tuscaloosa, Alabama
    Fee: $20, includes transportation, lunch, entry fee.
    Time of Departure: TBA
  • March 20 - Andalusia Senior Appreciation Day
    Golden Oldies Sock Hop
    Time: 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.
    Fee: $10 (includes transportation and lunch)

  • April 17 - Sloss Furnace
    Birmingham, Alabama
    Tour the furnace, the underground railroad tunnel and the blowing engine building. See enormous machinery and equipment that was used at Sloss Furnaces until 1971. Learn what it was like to work at a blast furnace. Museum is outside.
    Time: TBA
    Fee: $20, includes lunch, transportation and tour.

  • June 9-13 - Pigeon Forge Trip
    Fee:  $425 per person, double occupancy
    $75 deposit due by February 28th

  • September 7-13 - Niagara Fall Trip
    Fee:  $585 per person, double occupancy
    $75 deposit required by July 28th. You must have a passport or passport ID card for this trip.

SILVER SNEAKERS

Great for arthritis, helps with strengthening, toning, balance, and maintain range of motion.
Wednesday & Friday, 1:00 p.m.
Where: Gillespie Senior Center

 

WEEKLY ONGOING CLASSES (all classes are held at the Gillespie Senior Center).

Exercise: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 9:15 - 10 a.m.
Quilting: Monday, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. (all ages welcome)
Line dancing: Tuesday & Thursday, 8:30 - 10 a.m.
Tatting: Wednesday, 1:00 p.m.
Bowling: Tuesdays, 1 p.m. at Bama Lanes
Pinochle: Tuesday, 6:30 p.m.
Bridge Club: Tuesdays, 8:30 a.m.
Grief Support Group: 4th Thursday of each month, 1 p.m. 595-0840
