Weeded Lots PDF Print E-mail

Weeded lots pose a constant problem for our city. It is unlawful for any person in charge or control over the property to allow weeds and grass to grow to a height exceeding eighteen (18) inches. The Planning Department deals with weeded lots in two ways:

  1. The person living at the address will be given a ten day notice to cut the property. If the property is not cut within that time, an arrest warrant is issued so that the person will appear before a judge and explain why the property is not being maintained.
  2. If the property owner, or persons in charge of the property, lives outside the area, the Planning Department must follow State Statute 11-67-60. This statute allows the city to go upon the property and cut it and assess the costs to the property tax bill. This process is very lengthy and takes months to complete.

(Please note that both processes take time to achieve our desired outcome.)

Inquire about or report a violation.
