FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Jamie Hatfield, jamie.hatfield@prattvilleal.gov or 334-361-3609 DATE: June 18, 2010 Prattville Mayor Jim Byard, Jr. is encouraging citizens to help welcome home the soldiers of the 217th Military Police Company, headquartered in Prattville. This 217th provided military police support to coalition forces and conducted police transition team operations to train, mentor and coach Iraqi police during their time in Iraq. “The men and women of the 217th have been away from family, friends, their homes and their full-time jobs, helping keep the peace during this critical time in Iraq,” said Mayor Byard. “While no public welcome home ceremony is planned, I believe that it would be great for these returning soldiers to see the route lined with citizens, waving flags, or just waving in support,” continued the Mayor. The troop is expected to arrive with a police escort at the Prattville Armory (508 U.S. Highway 82) tomorrow afternoon around 4:15 p.m. 217th MP Company Return Route |
