| Old Fire Training Tower Removed | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
Prattville Fire Department Chief Stanley Gann asked the Wastewater and Street Departments to assist them in tearing down the old fire training tower behind Stanley-Jensen Stadium now that the new training facility is being used to train our firefighters. After using a torch to cut all of the anchor points loose, Wastewater used the crane to lay the tower down. It was loaded onto the Street Department low boy to be hauled away. The box car at this old facility contains a maze used by firefighters to simulate conditions in a dark building or house. It gives them a feel for moving around objects while maintaining contact with a wall in order to know where they are at all times. This box car was loaded up and taken to the new facility and will continue to be used in training. This old training tower was built by Prattville firefighters in the 1970s with materials that were scrounged and donated. It has served the City well, but is no longer needed due to the success of their new training facility. Chief Gann wishes to express his thanks to the Wastewater and Street Departments for their hard and efficient work on this project. Just one more example of a successful multi-departmental effort.
