| PFD Trains Medics in Baptist South Facility | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
Baptist South has a state-of-the-art training/certification facility which is used to train and credential their doctors and nurses. Prattville Fire Department was recently allowed to use this facility to train our fire medics. This training was mandatory for all fire medics which are currently assigned to an ambulance in Prattville's Fire Department. In the aforementioned training facility, Baptist South uses a very expensive (approximately $35,000) computerized mannequin. An operator controls/programs the mannequin behind a two-way mirror. He can manipulate any part of the "dummy" as well as speak through it to respond to the questions being asked by medical staff.
Fire medics can insert IV lines, perform intubations, treat wounds, run EKGs and many other procedures that they might be required to perform out in the field. These patient simulators provide a human experience in a training environment which gives our medics a more lifelike experience.
Each shift of medics ran three scenarios; anything from routine chest pain protocol to cardiac arrest. All scenarios were successfully completed by all of our medics. Prattville Fire Department consistently provides the best training for our firefighters and fire medics in order to provide our community with the best response and service. |
