City of Prattville Code Enforcement Officers recently inspected an abandoned structure located at 112 Industrial Park Road, acting on a complaint from a City Councilor regarding the building’s condition. Inspectors found the structure unsecured and housing several containers with possible hazardous chemicals. Following standard operating procedures, the area was immediately secured and the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) was notified.

Upon notification, ADEM evaluated the site and requested assistance from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Utilizing their financial resources, EPA took control of the site and began an assessment of the site to identify the chemicals stored on-site and determine the proper method of disposal for those chemicals. Once this assessment phase is completed, EPA will develop a plan to ensure proper disposal of the chemicals stored on-site.

In the event you have any questions concerning this issue, you may contact ADEM at 334-271-7700 or EPA at (404) 562-8293.
