The Way Off Broadway Theatre located in downtown Prattville is proud to announce the opening of their newest and most original play, “The Letter Box”, opening August 26. The show will run on Friday and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. through September 12, 2010.

“The Letter Box” combines hometown familiarity with the style of Broadway by using local business and venues to tell its story. Families will enjoy the story of two strangers, nearly two generations apart, whose lives intertwine by an unusual and seemingly random course of events. As one lies in the hospital in a coma; the other one desperately tries to unravel the mystery that just may save them both. It is the handwritten letters, contained in a well worn letter box, that reveal the complicated truth about love, faith, family and the chance for reconciliation.

Play writes, Tina G. Fonte and Lisa Martin’s vision for “The Letter Box” is to first generate awareness for local businesses by incorporating them into the play, but second, make the play adaptable for any small town theatre. The adaptation coincides with “Come Home to Prattville” which The City of Prattville chose for the Alabama Tourism's 2010 theme “Year of Small Towns and Downtowns in Alabama.”

“We are coming out of one of the worst economic downturns of our time,” said Fonte. “It is time we take a look at what made this country so great, and that is small towns and businesses that operate within them. We were fortunate enough to have the cooperation of the Prattville Downtown Unlimited groups of vendors and the ability to adapt the play by highlighting those businesses so they can be in the spotlight, which we hope brings some business their way."

Prattville’s Way Off Broadway Theatre was formed in the fall of 2002 as a part of the Prattville Creative and Performing Arts Council, which was also formed at this time. The sponsor for this was the City of Prattville, and Prattville’s Way Off Broadway Theatre operates under the umbrella of the City.
