World’s Best Players Coming to Navistar LPGA Classic

The top 7 players in the world have committed to play in the Navistar LPGA Classic. As of today, the Rolex Rankings include: #1 Yani Tseng; #2 Cristie Kerr; #3 Suzanne Pettersen; #4 Jiyai Shin; #5 Na Yeon Choi; #6 Ai Miyazato and #7 I.K.Kim. Miyazato won the Evian Master’s last week in France and moved up four spots in the ranking. Overall, 15 of the Top 20 players on the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings are coming to Prattville for the Navistar LPGA Classic. The current field for this year’s Navistar LPGA Classic with the rankings noted is available at the bottom of this page.

Tournament Dates – September 12 – 18, 2011

Monday, Sept. 12 – Qualifying for final two spots.
Tuesday, Sept. 13 – Practice rounds and junior clinic.
Wednesday, Sept. 14 – Pro-Am tournament.
Thursday, Sept. 15 – Sunday, Sept. 18 – Navistar LPGA Classic tournament.

The Solheim Cup Sendoff

Navistar LPGA Classic will be the final tournament prior to the Solheim Cup in Ireland where the top American players battle the top European players. A special chartered jet will leave from Montgomery and head to Ireland after the Navistar LPGA Classic. Nine of the top 10 American Solheim Cup players in the current standings are in the Navistar LPGA Classic and they include: Cristie Kerr, Morgan Pressel, Angela Stanford, Stacy Lewis, Michelle Wie, Brittany Lincicome, Brittany Lang, Juli Inkster and Christina Kim. The final Solheim Cup selections will be made prior to the Navistar LPGA Classic. Top Europeans in the Navistar field include Laura Davies, Catriona Matthew, Anna Nordqvist and Suzanne Pettersen. Both teams will be announced in late August and will have 12 members per team. The USA won the last Solheim Cup in 2009.

Football Schedule and Navistar

On Saturday, September 17, Alabama hosts North Texas, Auburn is at Clemson, Alabama State plays Grambling State at 7:00 p.m. at home and Arkansas hosts Troy.

Emphasis on Military

A major emphasis on saluting the military and supporting the Wounded Warriors Project will be incorporated into this year’s tournament. More details on these initiatives will be addressed at Media Day. Some background information can be found at www.navistarlpgaclassic.com.
