Flood Map Revisions 2013/14

On March 27, 2013, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provided preliminary Flood Insurance Studies (FIS) and Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) to the City of Prattville. These maps update the existing Autauga County maps last updated on June 16, 2009 and the Elmore County maps effective on July 18, 2011. After a required review and comment period, these maps are expected to become the official flood maps in early- to mid-2014. Based on the new maps, properties may have been added or removed from the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA), also commonly referred to the 100-year floodplain or A zones. Areas added to the SFHA will be managed under the city's Flood Prevention Ordinance following the effective date of the new maps. In addition, mortgaged properties in the newly designated SFHA will be required to obtain flood insurance after the effective date of the new maps. New maps will be finalized at the end of the required appeal period, which ends October 24, 2013. Additional information concerning the appeal period and process is available here.

Additional information concerning the National Flood Insurance Program and the City of Prattville's participation in the programs can be found at Floodplain Management.
