On the occasion of the 231st anniversary of the creation of the Badge of Military Merit, which later became known as the Purple Heart, by General George Washington, the City of Prattville will announce its designation as a Purple Heart City.
"One of Prattville's citizens and Purple Heart medal recipient, Steve Horton, will join us for this auspicious occasion," stated Mayor Bill Gillespie. "We are very thankful that he brought this to our attention and that we can use this event as another opportunity to honor those who have served our nation, many times at great sacrifice. I hope that all of you can join me in doing so."
The press conference will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7th in front of City Hall. Mayor Gillespie will also proclaim Wednesday, August 7th to be National Purple Heart Day in the City of Prattville. He will share that proclamation during the press conference.
The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
