For the third year, the City of Prattville is joining Nickelodeon, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the President's Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition, and the National Park Foundation in celebrating the Worldwide Day of Play event.
Mayor Bill Gillespie has issued a proclamation recognizing September 21, 2013 as the Worldwide Day of Play here in Prattville, Alabama. In addition to the proclamation, we will be holding a fun event for the children of Prattville at Cooter's Pond Park. DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER, we have had to reschedule our event for October 12, 2013 from 1-6 p.m.
Parks & Rec Director Kellie Cook has planned an event that will take Worldwide Day of Play to a new level in the City of Prattville! There will be obstacle endurance courses for K-2nd grade, 3rd – 6th grade, and 7th – 8th grade. Each course will be optimized for those age levels. Medals will be given out in different categories. Hopefully, that will spark interest and enthusiasm towards individual achievement!
There will be a fun wall to climb, provided by the U.S. Army, and much more. After registering for the event, Army service members will apply camouflage paint to the kid's faces before they tackle the obstacle course!
"Cooter's Pond Park is a resource that we're going to utilize more and more," said Mayor Bill Gillespie, Jr. "It is the perfect venue for this type of event and it will provide another opportunity for our kids to be exposed to outdoor activity, fun, and a healthy lifestyle."
The City of Prattville invites all children who want to play to join Mayor Gillespie and his staff at Cooter's Pond Park from 1-6 p.m. on Saturday, October 12th, at the pavilion on the upper deck.
