Mayor Gillespie's Thanksgiving Message

November 26, 2013

Dear Partners of Prattville,

This holiday season is before us. I want to wish everyone the very best, but also a very safe and memorable season.

We, as a community, have been blessed beyond our expectations. The significant progress we have accomplished is due to several things, but they all lead back to one thing. That one thing is you...our people, our Partners of Prattville.

The Partners of Prattville have provided encouragement and ideas. They have participated in their government. They have taken on responsibilities with committees, boards, and numerous non-profits. I want to thank you all for standing with me during this time and volunteering your services.

President John F. Kennedy said, "One person can make a difference, and everyone should try" and YOU have made a difference.

This community has grown. We have had new Partners to enter our lives and our homestead. We have had losses, too. Over the last year, the City of Prattville has seen several pillars of our community laid to rest. I will not mention names, but they have helped pave the roads we travel. They will be remembered and missed. Fortunately, we have our youth, our future. Faith, Family, and Friends is what defines us; it is what encourages us; it is what motivates us; and it is what makes us who we are.

This city has so much to offer, a diverse community, a forward thinking small town America. Because of all of this, I'm proud to say I live, shop, work and play in Daniel Pratt's hometown. Prattville, Alabama, where we honor our military, our forefathers, enjoy traditional Thanksgiving dinners with pecan pie and sweet tea.

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this little slice of Southern heaven.

I thank God for all of you and for all of mine.

Bill Gillespie, Jr.
